Jonny Martin

Welcome! I'm Jonny, and my vision is to help create a community for beginner golfers to integrate themselves into this beautiful game. We all have different motivations and goals when taking up golf, and my job is to make sure everyone feels understood and comfortable with what can be a daunting prospect.

My Story

I started golfing at 6 years old, and it has been a passion of mine ever since. I grew up playing at public and private golf clubs, and eventually realized it would make for an awesome career! From 2011-2023, The Thornhill Club was my second home, where my trajectory took me from golf services employee all the way to Assistant Professional. I went on to spend the 2024 season with the stellar professional staff at Oakdale Golf & Country Club.

I have 3 years of teaching experience with individuals and groups, as well as beginners and more seasoned golfers. What motivates me is enjoyment of the game, which is why I like to put more emphasis on the mental approach. In my young career as a professional, I've often wished I could help make golf more fun and accessible, even if it's just a tiny impact in the grand scheme. Playing Partners is my endeavour to welcome anybody who has thought about taking up golf, but has been reluctant due to the cost, time commitment, or steep learning curve.

Aside from golf, I love animals, hip-hop music, basketball, and Survivor, among other things. I love talking with students about our interests, because after all, golf isn't everything (though it often feels like it) !
